"Inspectio Cordis": Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, June 30

A weekly web series by Fr. Thaddaeus Lancton, MIC, introduces us to the meditations for the Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time by the Marian Founder. The goal is to allow Jesus to gaze into your heart and teach you self-examination, leading you to a more fruitful reception of Holy Communion at Sunday Mass, where there is a true encounter of our hearts with His Sacred Heart – especially fitting during this period of National Eucharistic Revival.

The Doctor of Unity: St. Irenaeus of Lyons

A great defender of the faith, St. Irenaeus of Lyons, Bishop and Doctor of the Church (feast day: June 28), was a student of St. Polycarp, who was a direct disciple of St. John, the apostle. Even St. Augustine cited Irenaeus as among the “famous and brilliant holy teachers of the Catholic truth.”

"Large and In Charge": St. Cyril of Alexandria

Saint Cyril of Alexandria, bishop and Doctor of the Church, whose feast day we celebrate on June 27, was a man of strong character, great devotion to orthodoxy, and faithful service to the Holy Father.

North American Sanctity: St. María Guadalupe Garcia Zavala

Saint María Guadalupe Garcia Zavala, also known as “Mother Lupita” (feast day: June 24), is the patron saint of nurses. She co-founded the Handmaids of St. Margaret Mary and the Poor, and in 2013 became Mexico’s second female saint.

A Saint for All Seasons: St. Thomas More

If you had money, power, and status second only to the king of your country, would you be able to lay it all down for the sake of conscience and faith? Would you possess a trust in God greater than your many extraordinary possessions? Saint Thomas More, whom we celebrate on June 22, is a gallant example.

Patron of Youth, Warrior for Christ

Saint Aloysius Gonzaga (feast day: June 21) is the patron saint of youth. For most of his brief life, this son of a warrior was fighting a very different battle with an absolute determination to win: a war against against sin. As the Church attests, he won.

Christian gentlemen and Father’s Day

As we celebrate Father’s Day, let us remember the Father who is in Heaven from whom all fatherhood takes its name, says Chris Sparks. Let us remember that God the Father is rich in mercy, and that St. Joseph, model of earthly fatherhood, is most remembered for his silence, not his dominance; for his wife and Son, whom he tended with such effective love and dedication, not for his earthly power.

"Inspectio Cordis": Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time, June 16

A weekly web series by Fr. Thaddaeus Lancton, MIC, introduces us to the meditations for the Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time by the Marian Founder. The goal is to allow Jesus to gaze into your heart and teach you self-examination, leading you to a more fruitful reception of Holy Communion at Sunday Mass, where there is a true encounter of our hearts with His Sacred Heart – especially fitting during this period of National Eucharistic Revival.

Saint Anthony, the Wonder Worker of Padua

After St. Joseph (and perhaps St. Jude), could there be a more beloved and invoked saint than St. Anthony of Padua, whose feast we celebrate on June 13? Called upon as the reliable founder of lost articles, St. Anthony’s life and legacy are far greater than this role for which he is well known and revered.
