St. Maximilian Kolbe

Mary is our Mother of Mercy. And St. Maximilian Kolbe (feast day: Aug. 14) is one who not only taught about the Immaculata, but also lived in imitation of her merciful, tender Heart.

On Aug. 14, we celebrate the feast of one of the greatest Marian saints in the history of the Catholic Church: St. Maximilian Kolbe. He was killed at Auschwitz when he volunteered to take the place of one man, a husband and a father, who had been chosen for execution. Father Donald Calloway, MIC, shares the story of this remarkable saint, a Martyr of Charity and a Knight of the Holy Rosary. Then hear the story of Redbird Ministries, a grief support group that provides healing to those who have lost loved ones to suicide.

If we look at the lives of the saints, we discover a powerful reality — those who are in love with God are always at peace, no matter the hardship, resting in the innermost heart in the will and providence of God. Consider the miracle that is the life of the priest and martyr St. Maximilian Kolbe, whose feast we celebrate on Aug. 14.

Such is the life, the work, and the heart of a person who has given everything to Mary.

Saint Maximilian Kolbe, whose feast day is Aug. 14, brought mercy to many in the concentration camp, including the man in whose place he died.

Saint Maximilian Kolbe is the patron saint of addicts.

An inmate shares his experiences surrounding his consecration to Jesus through Mary using the 33 Days to Morning Glory retreat.
