Divine Mercy Sunday
Evening Prayer (L’Osservatore Romano, May 3, 2000)
On Sunday, 30 April, at the close of the prayer service that is held each evening of the Jubilee in St. Peter’s Square, the Holy Father came to the window of his study and greeted the pilgrims gathered in front of the basilica.
I am pleased to extend a cordial greeting to the pilgrims attending the prayer that is celebrated each evening in St. Peter’s Square during the Jubilee.
Dear brothers and sisters, on this Second Sunday of Easter, on which I had the joy of enrolling Sr. Faustina Kowalska, apostle of Divine Mercy, among the saints, I urge you always to trust in God’s merciful love revealed to us in Christ Jesus, who died and rose again for our salvation. May the personal experience of this love commit everyone to becoming, in turn, a witness of active charity towards His brothers and sisters. Make Sr. Faustina’s beautiful exclamation your own: "Jesus, I trust in you!"
My Blessing to all!
[The Holy Father then said in Polish:]
I cordially greet all who have gathered on this special day in St. Peter’s Square to thank God at evening prayer for the gift of Sr. Faustina’s canonization. With all my heart I join you in this thanksgiving.
May you always remember the Divine Mercy Sunday of the year 2000. I pray God that this memory may increase in all hearts a firm trust in His gracious love and strengthen them on the paths of the third millennium. Jesus, I trust in you!
May God, rich in mercy, bless you and your loved ones.
