The Greatest Act of Charity

"I sincerely hope that more people will open their hearts to the greatest act of charity possible: that of praying for the souls who can no longer pray for themselves," said Fr. Dan Cambra, MIC, the director of the Marian Father's Holy Souls Sodality.

During November, we remember all the faithful departed. Why? Because many of the deceased need our prayers and sacrifices in order to pass swiftly through purgatory and homewards to heaven.

That's right - the souls in purgatory can't pray and ask for God's mercy for themselves. They must rely on the rest of the Church (including you and me!) to pray and draw graces from God's infinite love and mercy for them. God gives us the opportunity to help a countless multitude of souls through our prayers.

So come on, consolers! Live consoling spirituality especially this month of November by praying for the Holy Souls in purgatory. Have Masses offered for your deceased family and friends. Do works of mercy in their name and on their behalf. Even offer up your little daily sufferings for them and speed them on their way to heaven.

Before the month of November comes to a close, may you open your heart even more to the Holy Souls and aid them with your prayers and intercession.
